PNINA@ICANN-Rome
29/2-6/3/2004
Background
ICANN holds meetings 3
or 4 times a year in locations around the world (http://www.icann.org/meetings).
These meetings constitute an essential part of ICANN's
global consensus-development and outreach efforts. The
first round of ICANN meetings in 2004 was held 2-6 March
in Rome, Italy and hosted by
Register.it and The
Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the Italian
National Council of Research. Furthermore, the
Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN (http://www.gac-icann.org/web/index.shtml)
meets 3 or 4 times per year. GAC advice to ICANN usually
takes the form of a "communiqué" issued after each full
meeting. Next meeting will be held in Rome from 29/Feb –
3/March/2004, in conjunction with the ICANN conference.
After the opening ceremony, the meetings were split into
three main sub-groups; the GAC meetings, the gTLD NSO and
the country code name supporting organization (ccNSO).
The
Palestinian participation in the
GAC meetings was very
important in order to get a clear idea about the expected
role of the government in supporting PNINA and in the
overall overseeing of PNINA's activities. This was
intended to smooth PNINA’s work and help PNINA and the
Government build a true partnership through the mutual
understanding of the role of such an organizations.
PNINA
participation in the
ccNSO and its workshops was very important to achieve
the mission goals and get international recognition for
PNINA as the .ps designated organization.
This mission was a very useful and fruitful mission and
will surely serve PNINA future operation. The interaction
with the ICANN high caliper participants opened PNINA’s
eyes into new avenues of domain marketing, technical and
administrative operation as well as the legal aspects of
domain names and dispute resolution.
The public forums and panel discussions were the places
where you can take an idea about all Internet
stakeholders’ opinion and interests. The participants
ranged from young university students, university
professors, research wizards, Internet architects and
founders as well as the business, legal, marketing and
technical side. |
