For a long time, Palestine did not
have its own country-code Top-Level-Domain (ccTLD).
However, and after three years of hard work with IANA,
International Standards Organization (ISO) and the UN
Offices in New York, Palestine was able to obtain its
own ccTLD, namely, "PS". This was done through the
sincere and relentless efforts of many governmental
institutions, individuals and Palestinian experts
inside and outside Palestine who were involved in the
issue.
To realize the Palestinian presence
in the information age, an independent Palestinian
National Internet Naming Authority (PNINA) was formed
whose mission is to formulate the necessary
registration policies for the PS domain and to set
appropriate policies for enhancing Internet usage in
Palestine. PNINA is made up of representatives from
the Public, Private, Academic, Legal and other sectors
and individuals interested in advancing and promoting
the Internet usage in Palestine.
This entity aims at creating a true
partnership between the various Palestinian sectors in
administering and managing such a national project.
The Palestinian National Internet
Naming Authority (PNINA)’s implementation plan was
initiated in early 2003. PNINA Board of Directors is
made up of representatives from the Public, Private,
Academic, and Legal sectors and institutions
interested in advancing Internet usage in Palestine.
PNINA endeavors to establish meaningful partnerships
between these diverse Palestinian sectors in
administering and managing the national Internet
enterprise.
PNINA will establish a focal point
for a knowledge and resource network for technology in
Palestine, known as the PNINA Center of Excellence.
PNINA assures Palestine’s position as an independent
and informed community within the globally connected
